In August 1963 Superintendent Jacob Meeks and Mother Lenore Meeks answered the call of the Lord to establish a new work in West Chester, leaving Coatesville behind. In the early years, our congregation worshiped in various storefront locations as we sought to lay a solid foundation for the ministry.
In the 1980s, Mount Carmel Church of God in Christ found a location for a permanent home at our current location on East Miner Street. This move marked a significant milestone, providing a dedicated space for worship, fellowship, and community outreach. The new facility enabled us to expand our ministries and better serve the growing needs of our congregation and the surrounding community.
In 1983, Superintendent Jacob Meeks passed away, leaving a legacy of faith and dedication. Elder Milton E. Baxter was then appointed as the pastor by Bishop O.T. Jones Jr. Under Superintendent Baxter's leadership, our ministry experienced growth and acquired additional properties to support our various ministries and outreach efforts.
After 38 years of pastoral leadership, Superintendent Baxter retired from ministry in 2021. Elder Bruce E. Hauser, who had served as assistant pastor, was appointed as the new pastor by Bishop Guy L. Glimp.
Prior to being appointed pastor, Elder Hauser served faithfully in various roles within the ministry, including deacon to Superintendent Meeks and Superintendent Baxter, as well as pastoral assistant and assistant pastor. His contributions to Mount Carmel Church of God in Christ were invaluable.
In May 2022, Elder Hauser passed away, leaving behind a legacy of servant-hearted leadership.
In September 2022, Dr. Kyle J. Boyer, a son of Mount Carmel, returned to help lead the church. On April 30, 2023, Dr. Boyer was appointed as the pastor by Bishop Guy L. Glimp.
Today, Mount Carmel Church of God in Christ continues to be a place of worship, fellowship, and service in West Chester. We remain dedicated to nurturing the spiritual growth of our members, reaching out to the lost, and making a positive impact in our community.
